Photographer Monte Gerlach, of Ithaca, NY, has been photographing for several years in Central New York. Currently he is involved with two bodies of work that utilize light in very different but distinct ways. In one group he photographs people on the street with a flash and slow shutter speed which exaggerates the urgency of these black and white images. Gerlach has also been working in color in the early morning and late afternoon hours. The pictures form this series celebrate the beauty and delicacy of the long and low rays of light present at dawn and dusk.
Gerlach is currently an Assistant Professor of Photography at Ithaca College and has exhibited his work at the Project Art Center in Cambridge, MA, and the E.J. Bellocq Gallery in Louisiana, among others.
