Over the past 20 years Melissa Shook's work has evolved from very personal statements that included photographs of her daughter, Krissy, and a series of daily self-portraits, to work that has involved public projects including The Pine Street Inn, a shelter for homeless men and women, and a wheel chair basketball team based in Boston.

Shook has led workshops at Light Work (1975), the International Center of Photography, the Maine Photographic Workshop and the Catskill Center for Photography. One-person exhibitions of her photographs include the Port Washington Public Library and Foto Gallery in NYC. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and she has written articles for 'Camera Arts Magazine', 'Close-up' and 'Photograph'.
