Charles Stainback

Charles Stainback has served as Distinguished Visiting Graduate Professor in the Department of Photography/Film at Virginia Commonwealth University as well as Director of Exhibitions for the International Center of Photography in New York and Director of the International Center of Photography Midtown in New York. He holds a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA from the Visual Studies Workshop of the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Essays

Charles Stainbach of Rochester, NY was awarded a CAPS Fellowship in 1979. In July of 1980 Light Work exhibited 45 photographs by 16 artists, all recipients of the CAPS grant. The exhibition and the Fellowships were made possible by the Creative Artists Public Service Program.

The 16 photographers were selected from 999 applicants. Each Fellowship carried a stipend of $3500. The works exhibited embrace a wide range of styles and approaches.
