Ricardo Bloch's photographs almost always draw an emotional response from the viewer. Whether it's a close-up of a smooth and folded baby's body, a detailed glimpse of a horse's face or a yearbook-like portrait of a new army recruit, Bloch's work invites one to become engaged in and respond to the powerful feelings presented in these ordinary dramas. While artist-in-residence at Light Work in 1983, Bloch worked with Syracuse University professor and noted author Tess Gallagher on a project they hope will result in a book of words and photographs dealing with blindness and the decay of vision.

Bloch, who lives in Minneapolis, MN, received an NEA Photography Fellowship in 1982. He has exhibited his work at the Walker Art Center and the University of Rhode Island among others and is represented in the permanent collections of the University of Minnesota and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
