Color photocopiers have become a tool for many artists, and Allyn Stewart's work is an informed example. The advanced color and tonal capabilities of the technology is used by Stewart as she collages her slides and photographs with images which she has appropriated from a wide range of popular culture venues. Stewart's photo-collages are playful and yet her constructions grapple with many of the contradictions and ironies in America's visual and verbal symbols. Stewart is currently a lecturer of Art and Film History at Cazenovia College.
